The Spanish driver's Alpine team — Renault's rebranded racing marque — said he was doing well after Thursday's accident, but Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that he suffered broken bones.
'Fernando is conscious and well in himself and is awaiting further medical examinations tomorrow morning,' a team statement said.

It said he was taken to a nearby hospital where preliminary X-rays indicated fractures, and questioned whether he would be able to drive by the time the F1 championship kicks off in Bahrain on March 28.
The driver has been preparing to make his comeback to Formula One after a two-year hiatus, since quitting the McClaren team in 2019.
In August 2018, Alonso walked away from a crash in the first turn of the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa, after his McClaren was shunted by Nico Hulkenberg's Renault and flew over the top of Charles Leclerc's Sauber.

Fernando Alonso is in hospital with a fractured jaw suffered while cycling in Switzerland, but is expected to be ready for the new Formula One season.
The newly-installed Alpine F1 driver is preparing for the 2021 season, where he will return to the sport for the first time in three years.
In a statement, Alpine said: “Following his cycling accident yesterday (Thursday) Fernando Alonso was kept under observation in hospital in Switzerland. Medics discovered a fracture in his upper jaw and conducted a successful corrective operation. The attending medical team are satisfied with his progress.
“Fernando will remain under observation in hospital for a further 48 hours.”

The new F1 season gets underway on 28 March in Bahrain, in a change of schedule from the usual Australian Grand Prix opening. Bahrain will also stage pre-season testing between 12-14 March.
And Alpine are confident Alonso will be fit enough to drive in the team’s first ever race.
“Looking forward, after a few days of complete rest, he will be able to progressively resume training. We expect him to be fully operational to undertake preparation for the season,” the statement read.
